R | Northern Strand guides you through Union Square and past Green Line “E” Branch and Orange Line Stations at East Somerville and Sullivan Square, respectively, before crossing the Mystic River into Everett. Passing the Encore Boston Harbor Casino, this route then turns onto the Northern Strand Trail, a ten-mile multi-use path which was opened as a paved path in 2013. The R then passes through the vicinity of Malden Center, offering an alternative to the P | Malden Ctr line, before proceeding along the Northern Strand Trail and ending at the corner of Beach and Lynn Streets in Revere.
